• Why is hand care so important?
  Dry skin can result in the formation of cracks. These cracks are ideal hiding places for pathogens. Thus, a remoisturizing hand lotion is required before the workday, after the working day, before work breaks, after washing hands, and at other occasional times.
• Does every staff member need to use his/her own lotion?
  Hand creams or lotions may be shared. It is however important that they are stored in tubes or dispensers – not in jars.
• Can I put on gloves immediately after applying hand lotion?
  No. Hand lotions raise the porousness of the skin for allergenic latex particles. The lotion may also attack the latex, causing the gloves to shed various substances that can result in skin irritations.
• My hands are not dry at all – do I still need to use a hand lotion?
  “Prevention is better than curing.” This maxim also applies for hand care. The daily washing, disinfection, and wearing of gloves causes a lot of stress to the hands and can slowly lead to skin problems. Symptoms are often first apparent when the moisture levels of the skin are already compromised.
