Our Strategic Business Units

Just one century ago, fifty percent of all causes of death were related to infectious diseases and the average lifespan was only 45 years. Today’s life expectancy has risen to over 80 years and infectious diseases no longer reign on the list of the most common causes of death. The implementation of antibiotics, as well as developments in hygiene and public health, in conjunction with health education and comprehensive immunization were responsible for this major improvement. Nevertheless, the cost of healthcare related infections in the United States alone is estimated at over $ 120 billion. The sharp rise of multiple drug resistant pathogens such as MRSA, the widespread number of people without vaccination, the increasing appearance of prion diseases and a constant stream of new germs has set infection control procedures once again in the center of improving people’s lives. In a situation where pathogens are increasingly difficult to treat, attention should be given to the prevention of infection and disease. Here infection control plays the vital role.
We therefore focus on six main areas where we believe our product portfolio meets the challenges faced by today’s healthcare professionals.

Dental

One of the most common hazards in a dental clinic occurs when patient saliva, blood and other infectious body fluids become airborne and spattered.  The microbe rich spray causes infections and diseases which can be transmitted to workers and other patients.  The most common problematic infections are tuberculosis, hepatitis, AIDS, pneumonia and the common cold.  The dental team is duty-bound to make certain that infection control practices are followed regularly.  The mouth is a hotbed of microbes being rich with saliva and blood which are known carriers of infection. Many carriers of latent infections have no idea of their condition hence utilizing the same infection control practices for all patients is critical to their wellbeing.  OCC Switzerland’s product range covers all areas of infection control in dental clinics and extensive infection control training is provided by our product managers.

Medical

An increasing number of microbes are becoming resistant to antibiotics. Prevention of infection is therefore becoming even more important than before.  An estimated one fourth of all hospital acquired or Nosocomial infections could be avoided. OCC Switzerland’s long lasting experience in serving medical institutions, has contributed to its professional reputation. Our products are highly valued in over 50 countries around the world.

Veterinary

To provide the best possible care for animals, it is the responsibility of veterinary practices to minimize the risks associated with the introduction and spread of infectious diseases. The potential of cross-infection must be reduced by taking preventive measures and managing a facility in accordance with the Biological Risk Management standards. These guidelines regulate the physical design of a facility, client education for medical record keeping and staff training. Staff training includes preparation of written infection control policies.  Furthermore, veterinary practices must abide by strict hygiene standards. These include regular washing of hands, limiting the exposure of individuals to potential disease carriers, disposal of infectious waste and of course proper disinfection and cleaning of contaminated areas. OCC’s products are highly effective against numerous animal-borne bacteria and viruses including the Mycobacteria, commonly known as avian flu. The breadth and adaptability of OCC’s product line enables us to cover the specific needs of each veterinary practice.

Beauty and Wellness

In chiropody practices, nail design studios, cosmetic and hairdressing salons, piercing and tattoo parlours the requirements of hygiene legislation must be strictly followed. OCC Switzerland supports beauty professionals in their daily fight against the spread of infections by offering a comprehensive product range of high quality disinfectants and cleaning products. Professional hygiene gives patients and clients the assurance that they are in good hands.
